The Seacoast African American Cultural Center presents:
“Black Americans and the Green Movement: Having Our Say.”
Saturday, April 12, 2008
1 – 5 p.m.
Portsmouth Library, Portsmouth, New Hampshire
As our nation becomes increasingly alarmed by global warming and issues of environmental sustainability, The Seacoast African American Cultural Center has assembled a noted panel to open a dialogue that will explore the relationship between Black Americans and our “Mother Earth.”
The panelists:
- Michael Dorsey, Ph.D, Environmental Professor, Dartmouth College, New Hampshire
- Glen Ogilvie, Director of the Earth Conservation Corps, Washington, D.C.
- Zena Nelson, Chairperson of the South Bronx Food Cooperative, South Bronx, New York
The presenters will provide their collective insights into their successes in the Green Movement, in predominantly African American and minority communities in larger metropolitan areas. This promises to be an interactive, informative and lively event. The forum will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., at the Portsmouth Public Library, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The event is free and open to the public.
SAACS seeks local public and private organizations to provide pamphlets, information and advertising samples for dissemination at the event. Organic vendors are welcome to donate edible samples for the event. For additional information please contact Virginia Towler at ginnytowler@gmail.com or Karen Taylor at fhtkdt@comcast.net.
The mission of the Seacoast African American Cultural Center is to celebrate the lives and achievements of black people, with emphasis on the unique story of African Americans in the Seacoast, and to infuse young people with an appreciation of their history and culture.
